Program Overview
The Youth Skills & Economic Empowerment program equips vulnerable and unemployed youth with practical,Digital skills training, income-generating skills that enable them to become self-reliant and economically productive.
This program targets in school,out-of-school youth, young women, and young mothers, Persons with disabilities who face limited employment opportunities and economic vulnerability.
The Challenge
Uganda has approximately 10.8 Million Young people 18-30 years a significant number face unemplyment and limited economic opportunities , The 2024 Census indicate that about 16% of youth aged 18-30 years are unemployed , representing approximately 1.7 million young people . in addition , about 50.9%(approximately 5.25 million youyth aged 18-30 year) are not in emplyment , education , or training (NEET) , Limiting their opportunities for personal and economic development . Major challeges include lack of employable skills, limited digital skills , mental health challenges and low participation in decision making . FIRM Responds through vocational skills training , entrepreneurship support, mentorship, counselling ,Provision of start up tool kits, digital skills empowerment and youth led community development initiatives. unemployment and poverty continue to affect families and communities.
Without practical skills, youth remain dependent and vulnerable to risky behaviors that threaten their health and future.
Our Solution
We provide hands-on vocational training combined with entrepreneurship, mentorship, and life skills development.
Youth are trained in:
  • Garment making, tailoring, and fashion design
  • Hair dressing and beauty therapy
  • Cookery, baking, and food production
  • Interior decoration and event styling
  • Small-scale manufacturing such as soap, candles, and shampoo
How We Implement the Program
Training is delivered through practical workshops, community training centers, and mentorship sessions led by experienced trainers.
Participants also receive guidance on:
  • Basic business and financial literacy
  • Saving and reinvestment through VSLA groups
  • Market access and customer relations
  • Personal development and confidence building
Program Impact
Through this program, youth gain employable skills, start small businesses, and contribute to household income.
The program reduces dependency, strengthens families, and creates positive role models within communities.
